Rearrange formulas to isolate a chosen quantity and interpret the result.

Rearrange a formula with inverse operations when the target variable appears in one term

Problem

Given \(P~=~2l~+~2w\), solve for \(l\) while preserving the required grouping.

Big Picture

What this problem is really about

We’ll read the operation layers around the requested length and undo them in reverse order. First remove the term that does not contain the target; then divide the complete remaining expression by the target’s coefficient, preserving its grouping. Substitution into the original perimeter relationship will check that both the signs and the parentheses survived the rearrangement.
