Solve systems of two linear equations exactly and approximately using algebraic and graphical methods.

Estimate the solution of a system from a table

Problem

Compare \(f(x)\) and \(g(x)\) in the table below. Determine whether the table gives an exact solution or brackets a solution, and cite the comparison that supports the conclusion.

Big Picture

What this problem is really about

A table shows an exact system solution only when both output columns match in the same row. We’ll compare the outputs row by row and look for adjacent inputs where their order switches from one function below the other to above it. Without an equal-output row, that reversal supports a bracket between inputs, not an invented exact midpoint.
