Interpret terms, factors, and coefficients in linear and exponential expressions.

Rewrite a percent-change description as a multiplier

Problem

For an \(8\%\) increase, identify multiplier, direction, percent change, and percent of original retained in the new amount.

Big Picture

What this problem is really about

A percent increase combines the entire original amount with an added fraction; the change alone is not the new total. We’ll convert the stated percent to decimal form, add it to the whole-value multiplier, and translate the result back into a percent of the original. Those equivalent forms keep the direction, change rate, and retained total consistent.
