Analyze graph transformations caused by f(x)+k, kf(x), f(kx), and f(x+k); identify even/odd functions.

Describe a vertical shift of a function

Problem

Describe the vertical shift from \(f(x)\) to \(f(x)+4\).

Big Picture

What this problem is really about

The location of a constant tells which coordinates a transformation changes. We’ll notice that this value is added after the function produces its output, map a general parent point to the transformed graph, and track the horizontal and vertical coordinate changes separately. The sign of the output change determines the direction of the translation.
