Calculate, estimate, and interpret average rate of change over an interval.

Estimate average rate of change from graph endpoints

Problem

Use the graph's marked endpoints to estimate the average rate of change.

Big Picture

What this problem is really about

Estimating a rate from a graph begins with reading both endpoint coordinates from the axis scales. We’ll treat those estimates as the endpoints of a secant, calculate approximate rise over run in one consistent direction, and check the sign against the segment’s visual tilt. Because the coordinates are read from a graph, the resulting rate should remain explicitly approximate.
