Compare two functions represented in different ways: equations, graphs, tables, or verbal descriptions.

Compare a graph description to a verbal function description

Problem

Compare the displayed line graph with this verbal model: a plan with a \(\$20\) fee plus \(\$5~\text{per}~\text{month}\).

Big Picture

What this problem is really about

A graph and a verbal model may look different while encoding the same starting value and rate. We’ll read the graph’s vertical intercept and rise per input unit, then translate the fee and per-month language into those same two roles. Writing both relationships symbolically gives a clean test of whether their outputs track together.
