Describe rotations and reflections that carry rectangles, parallelograms, trapezoids, or regular polygons onto themselves.
Compare the symmetries of related quadrilaterals
Problem
Compare a square with a non-square rectangle. For each, identify reflection-axis count/types and nonzero rotation angles below \(360°\); then identify the square-only symmetries.
Compare these figures by viewing a square as a rectangle with the extra condition that adjacent sides are equal. First identify the transformations that preserve any rectangle, then ask which additional folds or turns exchange horizontal and vertical side roles and therefore depend on that extra equality.
