Draw transformed figures and specify transformation sequences mapping one figure to another.

Find a missing coordinate from a transformation rule

Problem

Find the missing coordinate when \(3,~5\) is mapped by translation by \(<4,-2>\) to \((a,3)\).

Big Picture

What this problem is really about

Treat a coordinate rule as two parallel equations, one for each coordinate position. Apply the horizontal component only to the source x-value and the vertical component only to the source y-value, form the complete image, and then match corresponding positions with the partially known ordered pair.
