Report quantities with accuracy appropriate to measurement limitations.
Identify underprecision from excessive rounding
Problem
A unit-price comparison requires accuracy within \(\pm~0.01~\text{dollar}~\text{per}~\text{ounce}\). The original value is \(0.37~\text{dollar}~\text{per}~\text{ounce}\), but the report is \(0~\text{dollar}~\text{per}~\text{ounce}\). Calculate the absolute error, test it against the tolerance, judge the precision, and give a suitable report.
Big Picture
What this problem is really about
Judge reporting precision against the task’s tolerance, not against a generic rounding habit. Compute the absolute difference between the report and the reference value, compare that error with the allowed maximum, and retain enough digits that the resulting report actually stays within tolerance.
