Create equations in two or more variables and graph them with appropriate labels and scales.
Identify domain and range restrictions from context
Problem
For the equation \(C=4x+12\), where \(C\) is total cost in dollars and \(x\) is the number of purchased items, identify the meaningful domain and range.
The equation alone allows real inputs, but the context restricts x because purchased items are counted. We’ll build the meaningful domain from nonnegative whole-number counts, substitute those inputs into the cost rule, and keep the resulting outputs discrete rather than treating every cost above the starting value as possible.
