Rearrange a formula to solve for a chosen variable

Problem

Rearrange \(y=mx+b\) to solve for \(x\), with \(m\ne~0\). Track how subtracting the constant term and dividing the entire remaining expression isolates \(x\).

What this problem is really about

To isolate x, we reverse the operations applied to it in the opposite order. We’ll remove the added constant from both sides first, then divide the entire remaining difference by the nonzero multiplier, keeping that difference grouped so the division applies to every term.
