Compare function properties across representations, especially quadratic comparisons.

Compare two quadratic axes of symmetry

Problem

Compare the axes of symmetry of \(A(x)=(x-2)(x-8)\) and \(B(x)=(x-1)^{2}+4\). State each axis and the horizontal separation between them.

Big Picture

What this problem is really about

Axes of symmetry can be extracted differently from different quadratic forms but compared as the same kind of vertical line. We’ll average factored-form roots, read the vertex-form center with the correct sign, and compare the resulting x-values for distance and direction.
