A measurement \(x\) is within \(0.5~\text{units}\) of \(10\). Write and solve an absolute-value inequality.

What this problem is really about

Read “within” as a distance condition: the measurement may lie on either side of the target, but no farther than the stated tolerance. An absolute-value bound captures both sides at once and unfolds into a compound inequality centered at the target. Because the tolerance is allowed exactly, both boundary points remain included.
