What this problem is really about

Record restrictions from the original expression before simplifying. Canceling a common factor creates a shorter formula for the inputs that were already allowed; it does not make an originally undefined input valid. The simplified formula and the original expression therefore agree on their shared domain, but they need not have identical domains.
