Problem

For total cost \(C(x)~=~500~+~8x~\text{dollars}\) for \(x\) produced items, simplify \(C(x)/x\) and state its algebraic restriction, contextual domain, meaning, and units.

What this problem is really about

Average cost asks how much of the total cost belongs to one item, so divide the whole cost model by the production count. Splitting the quotient separates the fixed-cost share from the per-item cost. That view also explains the domain: zero items cannot be used as a divisor, and the context further limits inputs to possible production counts.
