Calculate, estimate, and interpret average rate of change for advanced function types.

Find a missing endpoint value from an average rate of change

Problem

The average rate of change is \(4\) on \([2,~7]\), and \(f(2)~=~3\). Find \(f(7)\).

Big Picture

What this problem is really about

Work backward from the definition rather than treating the rate as the total change. Put the unknown endpoint output into the difference quotient, multiply the rate by the full input width, and then restore the known starting output. Substituting the recovered value into the original quotient verifies both the arithmetic and the endpoint order.
