If a sphere is cut through the center, what cross-section is formed?

What this problem is really about

Every boundary point of a sphere is the same distance from its center. When the slicing plane contains that center, the intersection keeps the sphere's full radius within the plane; an offset plane would leave a smaller radius by the Pythagorean relationship. Use the center condition to identify the special name of this largest planar section.
