Problem

What is the population density for \(120000~\text{people}\) over an area of \(30~\text{square}~\text{miles}\)?

What this problem is really about

Density turns a total quantity spread over a region into an average for one unit of area. Put the counted quantity in the numerator and the area in the denominator, divide, and carry the compound units through the calculation. Reading the result as quantity per square unit also checks that the ratio was not accidentally reversed.
