A poll estimates \(54\%\) support with a margin of error of \(3~\text{percentage}~\text{points}\). Compute the bounds and interpret the interval for the population proportion.

What this problem is really about

A margin of error is an additive distance on the same scale as the estimate. Subtract it for the lower endpoint and add it for the upper endpoint, taking special care that percentage points are not a relative percent of the estimate. Interpret the interval as plausible population-parameter values under the method, not as individual outcomes or a certainty claim.
