Write arithmetic and geometric sequences explicitly and recursively; translate between forms and model situations.

Diagnose an indexing error in a sequence model

Problem

Day \(1\) starts with a \(40~\text{mg}\) medicine dose, and the dose halves each day. A student proposes \(a_{n}~=~40(1/2)^{n}\) for \(n~=~1,~2,~3,~\ldots~\). Compare the required and proposed starting values, diagnose the indexing error, and write the corrected rule.
