Evaluate a subtotal-then-adjust context

Problem

At an arcade, Maya earns \(6~\text{tickets}\) for each of \(4~\text{wins}\), then earns \(9~\text{bonus}~\text{tickets}\). The arcade subtracts a \(7\text{-}\text{ticket}\) penalty. How many tickets remain? Evaluate \(6~\times~4~+~9~-~7\).

Big Picture

What this problem is really about

The story has a repeated earning amount followed by two separate adjustments. We’ll multiply to find the tickets from the wins, add the bonus to form a subtotal, and then subtract the penalty because it removes tickets. Following those meanings in order gives the amount that remains.
