Use commutative, associative, and distributive structure to rewrite and simplify numerical expressions efficiently.
Use associative structure to regroup
Problem
Regroup the factors in \(4~\times~25~\times~3\) to make the product easier to find. Write an equivalent expression with parentheses, then evaluate it.
Big Picture
What this problem is really about
This product becomes easier when two of its factors are combined first. We’ll use the associative property to place parentheses around the pair that makes a friendly hundred, while keeping the factor order and multiplication unchanged. Then the remaining multiplication can be done mentally.
