Use commutative, associative, and distributive structure to rewrite and simplify numerical expressions efficiently.
Distribute across a sum or difference
Problem
Use the distributive property to rewrite and simplify \(6(20~+~3)\). Show the distributed expression and the final value.
Big Picture
What this problem is really about
The outside factor applies to the entire sum, so distribution must create one product for each term inside the parentheses. We’ll multiply six by both addends, keep the plus sign between the partial products, and then combine them. Evaluating the original group first provides an independent equivalence check.
