Problem

Two lights start flashing at the same time. One flashes every \(6~\text{seconds}\), and the other flashes every \(8~\text{seconds}\). After how many seconds will they flash together again for the first time?

Big Picture

What this problem is really about

Each light’s future flash times are multiples of its own interval. Since they start together and we need the first new match, we’ll list the six-second and eight-second schedules in order, locate their earliest positive overlap, and confirm it contains a whole number of both cycles. That is an LCM situation, not an addition of intervals.
