MF.NS.5 Challenge MF-005-A12-V01

Find factors, multiples, common factors, and common multiples to solve numerical and contextual problems.

Test candidates against factor and multiple conditions

Problem

Determine the number that is a multiple of \(6\) and has \(9\) as a factor.

Big Picture

What this problem is really about

The two phrases describe the same test from opposite directions: the number must be divisible by both six and nine. We’ll translate each requirement into a whole-number multiplication or division statement and keep only a value that passes both tests. Checking the conditions separately prevents a number that satisfies just one from slipping through.
