Choose the right equivalence-check strategy
Problem
\(\text{Two}\) students propose ways to test \(10/15\) and \(2/3\). Student A simplifies \(10/15\), while Student B compares only the denominators. Determine the better strategy and classify the fractions as equivalent or not equivalent.
To judge the two proposals, we’ll test each one against the definition of equivalent fractions. For each strategy, we’ll determine what evidence it actually provides about value, then confirm the fractions independently through simplification or cross-products. That comparison will identify the stronger strategy and establish whether the two fractions are equivalent.
