Multiply and divide fractions and mixed numbers and interpret the result in context.

Multiply two fractions

Problem

Calculate \(3/4~\times~2/5\) and give the product in simplest form.

Big Picture

What this problem is really about

Fraction multiplication uses numerator times numerator and denominator times denominator, so no common denominator is needed. We’ll multiply straight across, reduce the resulting fraction by its greatest common factor, and compare its size with the original factors. Since both factors are positive and less than one, the product should be smaller than either one.
