Problem

A muffin recipe uses \(1~1/2~\text{cups}\) of flour for \(1~\text{batch}\). You are making \(2/3~\text{of}~a~\text{batch}\). How many cups of flour do you need?

What this problem is really about

Making two thirds of a batch means scaling the entire full-batch flour amount, not adding to it or scaling only one part. We’ll convert one and one half cups to an improper fraction, multiply by two thirds, and simplify matching factors. The result should be smaller than the full-batch amount because the scale factor is less than one.
