Compare and order rational numbers written as fractions, decimals, and percents.

Find the closest contextual benchmark match

Problem

A teacher wants to highlight the class whose project completion rate is closest to \(75\%\). Determine the closest class from these rates: Class A, \(0.72\); Class B, \(4/5\); Class C, \(71\%\); Class D, \(7/10\).

Big Picture

What this problem is really about

Closest means the smallest distance from seventy-five percent, whether a class rate lies above or below it. We’ll convert every rate to percent form, calculate each absolute percentage-point gap from the benchmark, and compare those gaps. The number line offers a visual check, but the smallest measured distance decides the result.
