Problem
A theater has \(50~\text{seats}\). If \(60\%\) of the seats are filled, how many seats are still open?

What this problem is really about
The sixty percent describes filled seats, but the question asks for the complementary group of open seats. We’ll first calculate the filled part of the fifty-seat whole, subtract that part from the total, and label what remains. Finding the open percent from one hundred percent gives an independent check on the subtraction.
