Look at the receipt shown.
Receipt
- Subtotal: \(\$32.00\)
- Sales tax: \(6.25\%\)
- Tax: ₋ Total: Use the receipt to find the total amount paid.
What this problem is really about
The receipt’s subtotal is the whole on which the six-point-two-five-percent tax is based, while the requested amount is the completed total. We’ll convert the rate, calculate the tax from thirty-two dollars, and add that tax to the subtotal. Subtracting the subtotal from the total should recover the tax line.
