Problem

A recipe uses \(3~\text{cups}\) of flour to make \(1~1/2~\text{batches}\) of muffins. How many cups of flour are used per batch?

What this problem is really about

Cups per batch means divide the total flour by the number of batches, not multiply the two quantities. We’ll rewrite one and one half as an improper fraction, divide by multiplying by its reciprocal, and keep cups per batch attached. Scaling the unit rate back to one and one half batches verifies the recipe.
