Compute and interpret unit rates, including rates with fractional or decimal quantities.

Interpret a contextual unit rate

Problem

A machine fills \(18~\text{bottles}\) in \(6~\text{minutes}\). Find the unit rate in bottles per minute.

Big Picture

What this problem is really about

The phrase bottles per minute fixes both the quotient order and the target of one minute. We’ll divide the bottle total by the elapsed minutes, carry the units through the quotient, and interpret the result as the machine’s output during each minute. Multiplying that rate by six minutes should reconstruct all eighteen bottles.
