Compute and interpret unit rates, including rates with fractional or decimal quantities.

Compare contextual unit rates

Problem

Calculate each bag's cost per ounce and determine the better rice buy.

Big Picture

What this problem is really about

A lower total price or a larger bag alone cannot establish the better buy because the ounce amounts differ. We’ll divide each bag’s price by its own weight to create the same dollars-per-ounce unit, then compare those unit prices. The smaller cost for one ounce determines which purchase gives more rice for the money.
