Plot, read, and interpret points in all four quadrants on the coordinate plane.

Classify a point by quadrant or axis

Problem

What is the location of the point \((-5,~-2)\) on the coordinate plane? Name the quadrant, axis, or origin.

Big Picture

What this problem is really about

Use both coordinate signs to locate the point. A negative x-coordinate places it left of the vertical axis, and a negative y-coordinate places it below the horizontal axis. Since neither coordinate is zero, rule out both axes and the origin before matching the left-and-below region to its quadrant.
