Plot, read, and interpret points in all four quadrants on the coordinate plane.
Match context locations to coordinate structure
Problem
On a coordinate map, the Library is at \((-2,~5)\), Skate Park at \((2,~5)\), Aquarium at \((-2,~-5)\), and Stadium at \((2,~-5)\). Translate \(2~\text{units}\) west and \(5~\text{units}\) south of the origin into coordinates, and identify the matching location.
Big Picture
What this problem is really about
Translate the directions one axis at a time: west determines a negative horizontal coordinate, and south determines a negative vertical coordinate. Write x before y to form the ordered pair, then compare both coordinates with the listed map locations. Matching only one direction is not enough to identify the place.
