Translate an area model into symbolic form

Problem

An area model has height \(3\) and width parts \(x\) and \(4\). Represent its total area as \(\text{one}~\text{grouped}~\text{expression}\).

What this problem is really about

The two colored sections are parts of one rectangle, so first combine their side-by-side widths into one grouped total width. Then use rectangle area: the shared height multiplies that entire grouped width. Leaving the width grouped captures the whole rectangle in one product instead of listing its partial areas separately.
