Solve one-step equations and interpret the solution in context.
Write and solve a one-step equation from a representation
Problem
A level balance has \(\text{one}~\text{mystery}~\text{box}\) and \(3~\text{unit}~\text{weights}\) on the left and \(11~\text{unit}~\text{weights}\) on the right. Let \(x\) be the mystery box's weight. Write the matching one-step equation and solve for \(x\).
A level beam means the total weight on one pan equals the total on the other. Translate the mystery box and three known units as one side of an equation, opposite the eleven units. Removing the same three units from both pans preserves balance and isolates the box.
