Write and solve a two-step equation from a representation
Problem
A level hanger has \(3~\text{identical}~\text{boxes}\) of weight \(x\) plus \(4~\text{unit}~\text{weights}\) on one side and \(19~\text{unit}~\text{weights}\) on the other. Write the represented two-step equation and solve for \(x\).
Read the level hanger as an equality: three identical unknown boxes and four known units balance nineteen units. Translate the three boxes as three copies of the same variable, not as three added to it. Then remove four units from both sides and split the remaining weight equally among the boxes.
