Problem

Translate “\(7\) less than \(3\) times \(x\) is \(11\)” into a two-step equation with the correct subtraction order, then solve it. Report the equation and solution.

Build the expression in the order the quantities are related. Start with three times the unknown; “seven less than” means subtract seven from that whole quantity, rather than reversing the subtraction. Once the equation is translated, undo the subtraction first and the multiplication second.
