Read a number line as an inequality
Problem
A number line has an open endpoint at \(6\) and a ray extending left. Translate the graph into an inequality, then test whether \(x~=~5\) satisfies it. Report the inequality and judgment.
Read the graph in two independent pieces. The open endpoint makes the comparison strict because the boundary is excluded, while the leftward ray represents values smaller than that boundary. Translate those features into one inequality, then locate five relative to the boundary and confirm the judgment by direct comparison.
