Identify a numerical pattern and write a rule that matches it.

Write a rule from a contextual pattern

Problem

A savings jar starts with \(\$0\) and increases by \(\$4~\text{each}~\text{week}\). Write an equation for the total amount \(A\) after \(w~\text{weeks}\).

Big Picture

What this problem is really about

Translate the story by separating the amount already in the jar from the amount added during each week. A constant weekly increase contributes the weekly rate multiplied by the number of weeks, while the starting amount is added once. Build the equation from those two parts, then test zero weeks to make sure the model begins where the story says it should.
