Interpret intercepts and starting values in contextual linear situations.
Find when a contextual quantity reaches zero
Problem
A battery starts at \(20\%\) and loses \(5~\text{percentage}~\text{points}\) hourly. When does it reach \(0\%\)?
Big Picture
What this problem is really about
Model the remaining battery level as the initial percentage minus the hourly loss repeated for each elapsed hour. To find when it is empty, set that changing output equal to zero and solve for time, then substitute the time back into the model. This targets the zero-output input rather than confusing zero hours with zero battery.
