Match and compare words, tables, graphs, and simple equations that represent the same relationship.

Compare two near-miss relationships

Problem

Compare \(y~=~5x~+~2\) with a table that maps \(x\)-values \(0,~1,~2,~3\) to \(y\)-values \(7,~12,~17,~22\). Classify their rates of change and starting values as the same or different.

Big Picture

What this problem is really about

Compare like features rather than the most noticeable numbers. Read the equation’s coefficient as its rate and its constant as its zero-input value; calculate the table’s rate from consecutive rows and read its zero row for the start. Then judge the two rate values and the two starting values as separate comparisons.
