Problem

A soup can has radius \(4~\text{cm}\) and height \(11~\text{cm}\). Calculate, in terms of \(\pi~\), the paper area for a label that covers only the curved side.

First match the paper to the surface it actually covers: the label wraps around the curved side but excludes both circular ends. Unwrap that side into a rectangle with length equal to the base circumference and width equal to the can’s height. Their product gives lateral area, with pi kept symbolic and square-centimeter units attached.
