Problem

A circular garden has a diameter of \(14~\text{feet}\). A gardener wants to put a fence all the way around it. How many feet of fencing are needed? Use \(3.14\) for \(\pi\).

Fencing follows one complete trip around the circular garden, so model a boundary length rather than the region inside. Because the supplied measure is the diameter, use the circumference form that multiplies diameter by pi and apply the stated approximation. The result remains in feet because a boundary is one-dimensional.
