Problem

A cylindrical tank has radius \(4~\text{ft}\) and height \(10~\text{ft}\). Only its curved side is painted. Calculate the paintable area.

What this problem is really about

Inventory only the painted surface shown: the curved side is included, while the open top and unpainted bottom are excluded. Unwrap that side into a rectangle whose length is the base circumference and whose width is the cylinder height. Multiplying those dimensions gives an exact lateral area in square feet without adding either circular base.
