Compute and interpret mean, median, range, and interquartile range in context.

Find a measure of spread

Problem

Find the range of this data set: \(4,~6,~6,~10,~15\).

Big Picture

What this problem is really about

Range measures the full distance spanned by the data, so only the true endpoints matter. Identify the maximum and minimum, then subtract the minimum from the maximum in that order. Viewing the difference as a number-line distance explains why the result is nonnegative and why repeated interior values do not affect it.
