Read a box plot statistic

Problem

A box plot of quiz scores is drawn on a scale from \(0\) to \(100\). The left whisker ends at \(48\), the left edge of the box is at \(64\), the median line is at \(76\), the right edge of the box is at \(88\), and the right whisker ends at \(95\). What is the median score, and what is the interquartile range (\(IQR\))?

Big Picture

What this problem is really about

A box plot assigns different jobs to its landmarks: the line inside the box marks the median, while the box edges mark the first and third quartiles. Read those three positions from the scale, then subtract the left box edge from the right box edge for the IQR. The whisker endpoints measure the full range, so they do not belong in that subtraction.
