Problem

A dot plot has counts \(1\), \(2\), \(5\), \(4\), \(2\), and \(1\) at \(1~\text{through}~6\) books. Determine the mode and the densest adjacent interval.

What this problem is really about

Use two related scans of the dot plot. The mode comes from the single tallest stack, so keep the book value separate from that stack's frequency; the densest adjacent interval comes from adding each pair of neighboring stack heights. Comparing those pair totals reveals where the greatest two-value concentration lies.
